Mouline Ainé Forte Piano Music box

Rare music box by Mouliné Ainé.

This box is made about 1840-1850 and is in absolutely great condition. The mechanism plays 4 tunes on a 21,8cm cylinder on 2 combs in a Forte-Piano setting. The larger comb plays loud, the smaller comb plays with a softer volume. This gives the music a extra dimension and is mechanically very hard to accompliche.

The mechanism is signed at the top lefthand side of the bedplate and numbered 1767.

The original tunesheet is faded but readeble. 'Du Du liegt mich im Herzen' is song nr 3 and is rarely found on music boxes.

The mechanism is housed in a plain fruitwood case as one should expect from a music box of this make and era. On the lefthand side one finds the endflap to conceal the 3 levers to control the mechanism.

Mouliné Ainé is known for his high quality music boxes of wich this in no exception. '…these superb music boxes…' Ord Hume writes on page 296 in 'The Musical Box, a Guide for Collectors'
